I'm a design engineer at Lead Catalyst. I take a product from the messy version someone describes out loud to something in production: schema, API, interface, iOS app, billing, and the marketing site it launches behind.

Most engineers stop at the API or the component. The interesting work is downstream of that: the webhook that must not double-charge, the PDF an inspector will read, the empty state nobody designed. That's the part I want.

Four of them went out this year: Embers, SnapCount, OutboundQA and Hood Cleaning Report, all launched on Product Hunt between June and July.

How I work

the whole surface, not one layer of it

A product is not the API. Pick a layer and see what owning it actually means.

Marketing site

The page the product launches behind. Programmatic landing pages per vertical, a sitemap generated from the routes, free standalone tools as the top of funnel, and copy written to be read rather than to hit a keyword.

Usually handed to a contractor. It is the first thing a buyer sees.

Craft

components, not screenshots

The interaction details I care about, extracted into files you can copy. No animation library, no headless-UI dependency, one helper function. These are live. Press them.

  • CopyButton

    A crossfade between two icons shows you two objects overlapping. Two pixels of blur during the swap makes the eye read one object transforming instead.

  • SegmentedControl

    The labels are rendered twice and the active copy is clipped to the thumb, so the text changes colour as the thumb passes over it rather than a beat ahead of it.

  • HoldToConfirm

    Slow going in, snappy coming back: deliberate where the user is deciding, immediate where the system is responding. The fill is a clip-path, so it never reflows.

Product studios, an early-stage startup and contract work. The through-line is scope: I keep ending up on the parts nobody else wants to own.

  1. Full-Stack Engineer

    • Building and shipping three live SaaS products end-to-end: Embers (LinkedIn engagement-to-lead pipeline), Hood Cleaning Report (NFPA 96 compliance for commercial kitchen contractors), and SnapCount (real-time multiplayer tally counter, iOS + web).
    • Backend: Django 5 + DRF + Celery + Redis + OpenAI; Express.js + SSE for real-time sync; PostgreSQL with soft-delete patterns, complex indexes, and idempotent webhook handlers.
    • Frontend: React 19 + TanStack Start (SSR) on Cloudflare Workers; Tailwind v4 with token-based design systems; Expo SDK 53 with TurboModules for the iOS app.
    • Infra + billing: Cloudflare R2 for object storage, Dodo Payments for multi-tier subscriptions, Fernet-encrypted token storage for third-party OAuth integrations (CompanyCam).

A role where I own a product surface end to end rather than a lane of it. The kind of scope where the schema decision and the empty state are the same person's problem. Design engineering, product engineering, or founding engineer at a team small enough that those titles mean the same thing.
